For over 20 years, the Transfer Student Center provides services to assist students who transfer to Cal from other colleges and universities with navigating the academic and cultural landscape of this research university. Our programs and services focus on supporting a successful transition, helping transfers build connections and community, and assisting students as they explore and pursue their academic and career goals. The center plays a key role in campus outreach and recruitment through yield events and participation in programs involving California Community Colleges.

Programs & Services

Transition Courses

Letters & Science 198 is a course offering designed to help facilitate your transition to Cal by improving your knowledge of the research university and its resources, helping you to identify key academic skills and strategies for upper division coursework and helps new transfer students build connections and community.

Transfer Success Workshop

This workshop series introduces transfer students to various campus resources, opportunities, and academic strategies. The workshops are facilitated by campus representatives and tailored to a transfer student audience. The workshops are a great opportunity for transfer students to learn about campus programs, resources, and ways to engage with the research university.

Transfer Mentorship Program

As a first semester transfer student you will have the opportunity to take part in the Transfer Insights Mentorship Program and be connected with a fellow transfer student who has had a year of experience in your major. Learn about academic expectations, working with professors and graduate student instructors, and strategies to succeed in your major.

Leadership Opportunities

Internships are developed each semester and focus on addressing community needs, fostering leadership, and public service. Students can earn academic credit while they take part in serving the needs of a dynamic student community.

Academic Counseling

Transitioning to a 4-year research university from another college or university can be challenging. Our staff practices a holistic and solution-focused approach that helps you consider your options and explore the possibilities UC Berkeley has to offer.

Transfer Community

The center provides a community space and a welcoming environment for students. The front desk is staffed by transfer student peer advocates who can assist in answering questions and connecting you to campus resources. The Center offers study spaces, comfortable couches, and a small kitchen area offering a microwave, toaster, coffee, and tea.

Transfer Volunteer Program

The Transfer Student Center Volunteer position is designed to provide you with an opportunity to develop leadership, communication, and collaboration skills as you assist with our goal of serving the large and diverse transfer student community at Cal.
