Maria Sanders

A Little About Myself:

Hi! My name is Maria Sanders and I am a third-year Legal Studies student from Orangevale, CA. I happen to be the first in my family to physically attend a four-year university, so every semester here at Cal is a dream come true for my parents and myself.

Previous Institution/Community College:

Prior to transferring to Cal in January of this year, I was concurrently enrolled at both American River College and Folsom Lake College. I feel as though my time in community college was rewarding, financially liberating, and the ideal way to complete GE requirements. Now, I'm not only fully focused on my major, but I'm also debt-free!

My Involvement on Campus:

I am the Assistant Chairman and former Chief Academic Officer of the ASUC Financial Wellness Commission, a UC Rally Committee member, as well as a Peer Advocate at the Transfer Center. Immersing myself in clubs and organizations as a transfer student was an essential part of finding a network of friends on campus. Each group I've joined reflects what I care about most here at school: finding financial stability alongside the stress of academics, igniting student spirit and joy, and lifting up fellow transfers.

Future Plans:

Post-Berkeley, I plan to tackle the LSAT, attend law school, and one day run for Congress. But apart from these career-advancing goals, I'm truly excited to finally have the opportunity to apply to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate for a foster child. It's been something I've wanted to do since I was 16, and it's the first thing I'm signing up for after graduation.

Ask me about:

Oh my goodness, so many things! Please ask me about anything related to writing, Young Adult fiction, astronomy/cosmology, the environment, politics, aliens (they do exist, duh), financial advice, animals *photos of your dogs, please!*, Supreme Court cases, Congressional internships, atlases/maps, Netflix shows, The Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise, and I could go on. Most importantly, please feel comfortable asking me about anything in connection to your transfer experience. I'll always be here to listen. Laughs and tears are equally welcome, we've all had plenty of each. :)
