A Little About Myself:
Hello! My name is Ashley and I am a fourth-year transfer student majoring in Sociology. I hail from Santa Clarita, a Southern California city known for Six Flags Magic Mountain.
Previous Institution/Community College:
I transferred to Cal Fall 2015 from College of the Canyons where I majored in Paralegal Studies in hopes that it would help me accomplish my goal of becoming a lawyer.
My Involvement on Campus:
However, my time at Cal has exposed me to amazing research opportunities and notable professors. I’ve discovered an overwhelming passion for research, specifically in Latin America, and now aspire to become a professor of Sociology. This newfound aspiration has encouraged me to become a teacher assistant for the Education 198 course, a Sociology tutor for the Student Learning Center, a research assistant under a Sociology professor and lead coordinator for the Latin@ Sociological Association (LSA). Aside from having a passion for research, I also have a strong passion for helping students due to my identity as a first-generation student of color. Therefore, I'm also a mentor for the Starting Point Mentorship Program and co-president of the Latinx Association for Transfer Students (LATS).
Ultimately, I plan to pursue a Ph.D. in Sociology and hope to work alongside Latin Americanists who have done groundbreaking research. After my program, I’d love to teach at a community college and possibly at a four-year institution afterward.
Ask me about:
I love helping students so please feel free to ask me about anything! Especially about research opportunities!
